Christophe Morin started playing the cello with his mother, a violinist, at the age of 5. At the age of 17, he won a 1st Prize for cello unanimously at the CNSMD in Paris in the class of Roland Pidoux and a 1st Prize for Chamber Music and at the same time followed the master classes of Jànos Starker, Mstislav Rostropovitch and Yo Yo Ma .

That same year, he recorded a live disc of Schubert's Trio Opus 100 alongside Jérôme Ducros and Renaud Capuçon.

His career was then unfortunately hampered by a physical problem on his left hand (see "the history of the glove") which prevented him from performing in concert for many years.

In 2010, he created the Chamber Music Festival "3 days in May" on the Ile de Ré before being joined by Sarah Nemtanu (violin) as artistic director.

He performs in chamber music concerts with musicians such as Nicolas Angelich, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Eric Lesage, Sarah Nemtanu, Pierre Fouchenneret, Emmanuel Pahud, Guy Bronstein, Amihai Gross and other soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic, David Grimal, Jean-Marc Luisada , the Modigliani Quartet, Julien Gernay, Adam Laloum, Liya Petrova, etc… Christophe Morin also likes to pay with his Parisian friends Alex Gattet ( solo oboe at Orchestre de Paris), Julien Hardy (solo bassoon from Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France), Sarah Nemtanu (solo violin from Orchestre National de Radio France).

He is also invited to numerous festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, South America, the United States, Japan and in China (where he performs "Rhyme", the first creation in China of Zhou Tian's work for solo cello).

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

In 2020, Christophe records with pianist Julien Gernay the sonata Arpeggione by F. Schubert and Le Grand Tango d’A. Piazzolla, but also Pezzo Capriccioso by P-I. Tchaikovsky or the Variations on the string of A by Paganini. These recordings are broadcast in the form of live recordings.

He participates in the Cypher dance video series produced and broadcast by Culture Box / France.tv performing an original work for solo cello, in a video with breaker Yaman Okur.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

His vocation as a globetrotter of music led him to play on all continents, whether as a soloist, in an orchestra (Mahler Chamber Orchestra of which he is a member, the Sinfonia Grange au lac of which he is solo cello, but also as a guest. regular of the Dissonances orchestra), or with the Trio Miroir alongside Charlotte Julliard and Grégoire Vecchioni.

Their recording of Mozart's Grand Divertimento and G. Fauré's First Quartet with Adam Laloum, has just been released in 2021 by Nomad Play.

After 20 years of research to develop a unique playing technique with a glove in his left hand, Christophe is finally fully enjoying his return to the stage.

Christophe plays a 1725 Matteo Goffriller.

WHY THIS GLOVE ?

Everything was fine until I was 20. I entered the CNSM in Paris at the age of 15 and obtained my 1st Prize 1st appointed at the age of 17. I then benefit from the advice of Yo-Yo MA, Rostropovitch, Janos Starker… during my two years of master's degree.

It was when two agents were busy launching my career that a disorder called "hyperhidrosis" (excessive sweating) occurred on my hand, making it impossible for me to provide technical precision.

After testing dozens of lotions that were supposed to reduce this sweating, I had to come to terms with a "sympatectomy," an operation that cuts the responsible nerve inside the chest. Unfortunately the skin then became much too dry!

I never stopped my research and ... followed many steps.

First, I used a cotton glove used by surgeons with allergies to latex, it was already a great step forward.

Then I discovered the beautiful qualities of a certain microfiber that a great designer (my neighbor) agreed to sew meticulously at the end of my cotton glove ...

Each breakthrough was the culmination of months of research, failures and small miracles!

Here are with immense shortcuts the few steps which allow me to live happily my life as a passionate musician… it is true that I am the only cellist in the world to play with a glove !!

My greatest reward today is picking up my instrument every day and just thinking about the music!
